Jeff Jackson
Jeff Jackson grew up in rural Texas and lives in Makawao, Hawaii with his sons Kai and Isaac. He climbs and writes about climbing.
As an adventure-sports writer, he has published more than 500 articles.
Jeff teaches writing at the University of Hawai'i Maui College.
Jeff’s essay “Paradox in Paradise” appeared in Best American Sports Writing 2019. In 2018, Jeff received the H. Adams Carter Literary Award for contributions made to climbing arts and letters. His short stories have appeared in American Short Fiction and ASCENT. His essays have been translated into German and Spanish. His story “The Lotus Eaters” was anthologized in the book 30 Years of Climbing Magazine. He wrote the U.S. and Mexico climbing chapters of the Lonely Planet Atlas to Adventure.
Partnered with John Long, Jeff writes action-adventure screenplays for Chockstone Pictures.
Still an active climber, Jeff has made hundreds of first ascents in places as varied as The Cirque of the Unclimbables on the border of the Yukon and Northwest Territories, The Mountains of the Moon in Uganda and the Andes of Peru.
